Manchester United Priority Target: Mats Hummels!

Mats Hummels could be on his way to Old Trafford!

mats hummels

Manchester United make Mats Hummels their number one target as the transfer window nearly closes!

News has arisen from various sources that Mats Hummels has become the priority target for Louis Van Gaal as he looks to reinforce his defence with a quality leader at the back. Manchester United staff are currently in Germany attempting to seal a deal for the Borussia Dortmund defender, however there are many factors that may affect any potential deal.

Potential issues regarding the deal

1. Mats Hummels would prefer Champions League football

2. Mats Hummels has showed his loyalty to Borussia Dortmund in the past

3. Borussia Dortmund’s reluctance to sell the star player

Leader needed

Manchester Untied lack a real leader at the back. Although they have recently signed Marco Rojo from Sporting Lisbon, many suggest they still require a top defender and the likes of Mats Hummels would really improve the back line, which Manchester United need to be solid in order to pose a real title threat. Things are up in the balance at the moment but Manchester United are doing all they can at the moment to make the deal happen.

Will Mats Hummels be the missing jigsaw piece to the puzzle or do they need someone else?

Transfer news: Manchester United to pay £15million for Thomas Vermaelen

Manchester United look to beat Barcelona in the chase to sign Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

The Arsenal leader may come as a fairly cheap replacement for Nemanja Vidic, who recently left to Inter Milan after a eight year stint at Old Trafford. Barcelona looked to have taken pole position in the race to sign the 28-year-old Belgium international on Tuesday when they made a bid of £10million for the player.

However, Sky sources have revealed that United are Vermaelen’s preferred destination and the Old Trafford club will have no problem beating Barca’s offer.

Vermaelen’s future at Arsenal has been the subject of speculation all summer, with the centre-back entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates.

Manager Louis van Gaal is anxious for more signings following the club’s return from their pre-season tour in America and wants to close deals for Vermaelen and Ajax wing-back Daley Blind before his Premier League bow against Swansea City on August 16.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward accepts he will have to pay a premium price for Vermaelen however because Arsenal would prefer to see him go to La Liga than play for one of their Premier League rivals.

He is no longer first choice for the Gunners, with boss Arsene Wenger preferring the centre-back pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny last season.

Wenger also revealed last week he could not be certain Vermaelen would stay, as he could not guarantee the defender first-team football.

Vermaelen started just seven Premier League games last term and it seems the player is keen to move on, with United looking an ideal destination for him as new manager Louis van Gaal seeks to increase his defensive options.

Louis Van Gaal – Inherited a ‘Broken Squad’ (Sourced from ESPN)

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal claims he has inherited an unbalanced and “broken” squad. Apparently he will attempt to repair the squad by removing the likes of Fellaini and Anderson.

Van Gaal denied that succeeding David Moyes would be easier than following Sir Alex Ferguson, who won 13 titles in 26 years at Old Trafford.

In the Dutchman’s eyes, Ferguson left Moyes with a team of winners. He says he is inheriting a “broken” squad awash with attacking midfielders.

lvg

“No,” Van Gaal said when asked whether following Ferguson would have been harder. “I don’t agree. I had to follow Bobby Robson at Barcelona the year after he won three titles and there wasn’t a problem (Van Gaal won the league that year).

“When there is success you have a very good squad, and now I have to follow and the squad was broken I think.

“When you look at the squad, there is quality. There is [Wayne] Rooney, [Robin] van Persie, [Javier] Hernandez, [Danny] Welbeck, but you also see Juan Mata, Fellaini, and you see [Ander] Herrera. There are a lot of players that can play in the same position.

“It is not in balance. It’s more difficult to succeed in a difficult situation than in a fantastic situation.”

Van Gaal will look to address the imbalance in his squad by moving Fellaini on with reports suggesting, again, that he has made it clear to senior United figures that the £27.5-million signing by Moyes does not feature in his plans.

Napoli are said to be interested in the Belgium midfielder, who returned to training at United’s Carrington training base on Monday, and United are reportedly prepare to take a hit on the price they paid for him, being ready to sell for around £13m. However, Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is thought to prefer a loan deal.

Van Gaal will also address the squad imbalance by trying to sign at least two players over the next three weeks – rumoured to be Thomas Vermaelen and Mats Hummels.

He has been monitoring the recovery of injured Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, who is valued at £79m, while the club is also thought to be keeping tabs on Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

Van Gaal insists he will not pay over the odds for any transfer targets though after spending more than £50 million on Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer. The manager has been told he can break transfer records

“I don’t buy players for buying players – I buy players to improve my selection,” Van Gaal said. “First I have to see what we need in all the positions from the system we shall play. At this moment, I don’t know for sure if we will play this system [4-3-3].

“When we play 4-3-3 we will use more or less the same players. But I will need more specialists on the wings and more attacking players – then, we have to buy another type of player.”

United fans can expect Van Gaal to use that particular system more often as it means he can accommodate Rooney, Van Persie and club-record signing Mata in the same team.

“That is one argument for why I choose this system – then, I can play them all. That’s also important but we don’t forget all the others. Hernandez can also play in the striker’s position, Welbeck can also play in the striker’s position and maybe Will Keane can play in that position,” Van Gaal said.

“Rooney can play No.10 and No.9 and he said to me he can also play No.11 and No.7. But I like him more at No.9 or No.10.”

Rooney impressed in the club’s recent friendly victory against Roma and earned special praise from his manager. The England striker is desperate to claim the United captaincy and wants to star under Van Gaal. However, his manager insists he still needs more time to determine who will captain his side in the new season.

“For me the choice of the captain is always very important. He is the captain on the pitch and he can enlarge my influence but he needs to have the same philosophy and way of seeing life. It’s not simple to choose so I need time to do that,” Van Gaal said.

“It’s dependable on personality. The captain doesn’t have to be the most senior player. For me, it’s more about the personality and mentality and the way he stands in life is very important.”

Real Madrid star Di Maria wants to join LVG’s Man Utd

According to The Daily Star on Sunday Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria WANTS to join Manchester United.

Having recently purchasing James Rodriguez Man United know that Di Maria is up for grabs at Real Madrid’s £45m asking price BUT Louis Van Gaal is unsure on whether to move for the Argentina star.

Paris St Germain are also on full alert but they are unhappy with Di Maria’s supposed interest in moving to Manchester.

United won’t quibble over Real’s fee as Van Gaal has enough funds at his disposal to negotiate a straight cash deal. On the other hand Louis Van Gaal is currently reviewing his squad on the USA tour. Wilfried Zaha has yet to feature and Nani has not really stood out in the two games he’s featured in. Ashley Young played well against L.A Galaxy notching up 2 goals and an assist, while Antonio Valencia looks certain to be in Van Gaal’s plans.

WORLD RECORD FEE? Man Utd Vice-Chairman hints they could spend big!

Angel_di_Maria_-_2011

Prepared to spend big!

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has spoken out about the budget of the global footballing giants. It is clear that United are able to compete with the richest clubs in the world to sign the best players around.

“There is no budget, there is money. We are in a very strong financial position. We can make big signings. That doesn’t mean we are going to throw money around. Louis is the manager. We have a lot of scouting output through the last 12 months that is flagging various things to us.”

The Glazers have often been criticized regarding their handling of the club since taking over, however former manager Sir Alex Ferguson always spoke upon the owners in a good light and suggested that they are always willing to bid big for the right players.

“Whether it’s a record or not”

Who are Manchester United’s transfer targets? Will Ed Woodward have the final decision? Mr Woodward went on to suggest Manchester manager Louis Van Gaal will be deciding who joins the club.

“Louis is the one who makes the ultimate decision around who he wants in his squad. I am not going to force feed him with a player he has not selected. The reality is that we’re not afraid of spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market. Whether it’s a record or not doesn’t really resonate with us. What resonates is a top, top elite player that the manager wants that is going to be a star for Manchester United.”

Cesc Fabregas looks set to leave Barcelona!

fabregas

It looks like Cesc Fabregas time second stay at Barcelona may coming to a surprising end after the missing the club’s photo shoot.

There has been a lot of speculation from newspapers such as Daily Express who suggest he may be on his way to Manchester United or Arsenal after being left out of Barcelona’s kit launch.

All the big guns including Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Neymar and Gerard Pique, but Cesc Fabregas wasn’t present. It echoes memories of when Thiago Alcantara was left out prior to his move to Bayern Munich last summer.

With both Manchester United and Arsenal ready to pounce on the Catalan playmaker, it seems the asking price of £45 million may be paid. Will Barcelona really let him go with Xavi’s playing days soon coming to an end?

Toni Kroos to Manchester United deal nearly done! (Sourced from ESPN)

Manchester United believe they are close to capturing Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos after advancements, according to sources close to Old Trafford.

kroos

The United hierarchy are now confident that the agreement between the two clubs is in place for the 24-year-old to become the first of potentially five high-profile signings by Man United. As Toni Kroos is moving into the final year of his contract at Bayern, this makes it easier for United to get their midfield maestro. Kroos being in his final year may persuade the German Double winners to consider selling the player this summer rather than see him possibly leave for free 12 months later. Toni Kroos is not happy with the way Bayern value him and Man Utd may step in to give him the wages he believes he deserves.

Louis van Gaal, whose appointment as successor to David Moyes was confirmed on Monday, has a significant rebuilding job with several players moving on and Ryan Giggs, who will be his No. 2, also hanging up his boots. United plan to spend at least £130 million improving four key areas: central midfield, central defence and left-back.

Toni Kroos is the exact type of player that Manchester United need. It is easy to compare him to the likes of Paul Scholes. He is  a great central midfielder who has great vision, can pick a pass and has remarkable shooting range. Paul Scholes himself has urged the club to make Kroos a priority target this summer!

Paul Scholes:

duo_3145577

“The first player I’d bring in is Toni Kroos. He’s a top-class central midfield player but United need five or six to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League again.”

Surprisingly, United may enjoy more success in bringing in one of Arturo Vidal from Juventus or Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas. While there is a belief that the Chilean midfielder can be secured relatively cheaply in relation to his standing, Barca may also be “open-minded” about offers for Fabregas. Cesc Fabregas is not strictly for sale, but Barca will consider approaches. Sources have stated that both United and Arsenal have been made aware of the situation.

Cesc Fabregas leaving barcelona

How much is the supposed agreed deal for Toni Kroos worth?

Sources suggest Manchester United are proposing a £20 million move for the German playmaker, which will be a lot cheaper than the proposed £45 million deal for Cesc Fabregas.

luke shaw

Reports have suggested that Manchester United and Southampton are currently in negotiations over a £27 million fee for the teenager and the house hunting rumours circulating perpetuate the likelihood that this transfer will be completed soon.

It’s expected that Shaw will receive a massive contract at Manchester United, as he looks to continue his rise in the footballing world. It appears that the youngster’s agents will finalise terms with Louis van Gaal’s side this week, as United prepare to enter a new era.

Shaw will be desperate to prove his credentials in Brazil this summer, before heading to The Theatre of Dreams after the World Cup.

It certainly looks set to be a busy summer for Manchester United, and the Shaw signing could well be the first of many for the club.

Wayne Rooney signs contract extension with Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at Manchester United until June 2019 according Sky Sports sources.

The England striker’s future had been the source of speculation since Chelsea attempted to sign the striker last year.

With 18 months left on his previous deal, some of Europe’s top clubs began to take an interest in the 28-year-old, but on Friday night he committed his future to United.

“I am made up to be staying at United,” said Rooney, who has scored 208 goals in 430 appearances for the club.

“I now have the chance as one of the club’s senior players to help the younger players coming through and to be a part of another great United team.”

Wayne Rooney

“In August I will have been at the club for 10 years and during that time I have played with some fantastic players and won everything that I hoped I would when I first signed.

“I now have the chance as one of the club’s senior players to help the younger players coming through and to be a part of another great United team.

“The fans have always been a huge part of this club and the support they have given me since my debut against Fenerbahce has been amazing. I am very grateful to all United fans around the world for their continued support.

Rooney’s contract is understood to be worth around £300,000 a week and will be a welcome boost for United fans, who have seen their team slip 11 points off the pace in the hunt for Champions League football.

Rooney signs new United deal

“I am thrilled that we have got Wayne Rooney to stay,” said United boss David Moyes.

“He has been fantastic. Everyone would want him in their team.

“There were clubs who did want him. There were clubs who would have wanted him (had he not signed a new deal) but there was never going to be a chance he was going to leave Manchester United, certainly not on my watch.”

Rooney has scored 11 goals during an injury-interrupted season and is tipped to succeed Nemanja Vidic as captain at the end of the season.

The Merseysider, who joined United from Everton in 2004, could now spend the rest of his days at Old Trafford and will be keen to beat Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for the club.

“Wayne is a great player and hopefully we can keep him at a really high level which he has shown this season,” added Moyes.

“Part of the rebuilding (process) is making sure that you keep the players you really want to keep.

“We are looking to bring the best players in the world to the club. I think Wayne Rooney is one of them.

“I will be looking to make more signings in the summer and hopefully add to the quality we already have got.”

Biggest January 2014 Transfers in English football

As the January transfer window is coming to a close in it’s final week, let’s take a look at the top signings that caught everyone’s eye in the first month of 2014.

Aiden McGeady

AidenMcGeadyIreland

The pacy winger joined Everton from Spartak Moscow on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee. He won four Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Cups in six years for Celtic before moving to Russia. He is on this list because of his fancy tricks, notably “The McGeady Spin”.

Juan Mata

juan mata spain

Who would have imagined Chelsea’s two-time Player of the Year to be benched in the first half of the season under new coach Jose Mourinho? The likes of Oscar (new number 10 described by The Special One), Eden Hazard,  summer signings Willian and Andre Schurrle made it difficult for the Spanish international to break into the starting eleven. David Moyes decided to break the bank and capture Juan Mata’s signature for a club record fee of £37.1 million. Juan Mata vowed to perform in every game in order to make it into the Spanish squad for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Mohamed Salah

The battle to capture Mohamed Salah’s signature between Liverpool and Chelsea was one of the highlights of the January transfer window. The 21-year old Egyptian eventually signed for the Blues for a fee reported to be £11 million. He captured the eyes of world football after scoring in both victories over Chelsea for Basel in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Nemanja Matic

matic

He was formerly a Chelsea player, before leaving for Benfica in a deal which brought David Luiz to Chelsea. He rejoined the Londoners for for a fee of £21 million. At 6 foot 4, the Serbian was what Jose Mourinho was looking for. He wanted depth in his squad, and depth he has, with Frank Lampard, Ramires, Nemanja Matic, John Obi Mikel and David Luiz as an alternative.

Biggest Shocks of the Season – 2013/2014

Manchester United’s Home Record so far: W 5 D 2 L 4

Manchester United are prone to starting the season off slowly and any fan will be able to tell you that. Yet this would never worry the Red Devils as Sir Alex Ferguson would finish strong and clinch a Champions League spot come the end of the season. Since 1990/1991 United have always finished 3rd or above and have won the league 13 times. But is that about to change?

The Theatre of Dreams must be giving Moyes nightmares this season. Being beaten at Old Trafford in the league by West Brom, Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham isn’t something United are used to. Fingers began pointing early on at the new recruited manager. On the other hand in Moyes’ defense he has been unable to pick Robin Van Persie (last season’s top goal scorer with 26) for most of the season. Additionally a jaded defense struck with injuries has caused problems at the back seeing United concede 10 goals in 11 home games.

How Much Time Do Managers Have? – 11 management changes since the end of last season

mackay

This topic has hit the headlines recently with the controversy in Wales seeing Malky MacKay relieved of his duties as Cardiff manager. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named as his replacement and will try to prove himself as a Premier League manager. But how long will Solskjaer really have to prove himself in the best league in the world?

Mackay lasted until Christmas but his efforts weren’t enough to gain the approval of Vincent Tan. There are sturdy arguments to suggest he shouldn’t have been sacked. During his time at Cardiff taking charge of 125 games he left the club with a 43% success rate winning 54 and losing only 34. Not forgetting a 3-2 home victory over Manchester City in August. Most importantly Mackay ensured the Welsh bragging rights were in Cardiff’s favor after beating Swansea 1-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Big names including Paolo Di Canio, Ian Holloway, Martin Jol and André Villas-Boas have also left there clubs since the beginning of this season. Unless you’re Arsene Wenger no one seems to be safe in Premier League management. It won’t be long until managers only have a matter of games to prove themselves let alone a matter of months.
