Manchester United summer transfer targets wanted by David Moyes

This season has seen Manchester United lose five matches in all competitions at the Theatre of Dreams. It has been a difficult experience for new manager David Moyes and club fans after the drastic change of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. The current champions of England consists of the same title-winning team of the 2012/13 season, as well as the inclusion of Marouane Fellaini, teen sensation Adnan Januzaj and record signing Juan Mata. However, nothing has been working for the Manchester club and the fans are getting impatient.

David Moyes has made it clear that his intentions are going big in the summer transfer window. Here are some of Manchester United’s transfer targets:

1. Toni Kroos

The Bayern Munich midlfielder was key in their Champions League win at The Emirates Stadium. He was on David Moyes’ wishlist during the winter transfer window and will be the club’s priority in the summer. With the German’s contract ending in 2015, it is uncertain what lies in the near future. He will play a key role in Manchester United’s midfield, with the aid of Michael Carrick, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney if he is signed.

2. Luke Shaw

luke shaw

Manchester United are planning to make Luke Shaw the highest-paid teenager in the Premier League history by offering him a staggering £75,000-a-week to join them in the summer. With the ageing Patrice Evra and inconsistency of Alexander Buttner, he has been said to be a vital part in a new-look Manchester United side next season. Luke Shaw won his first England cap against Denmark after coming on in the second half and his performance was praised by the manager and the players.

3. Antoine Griezmann

The Real Sociedad winger has been in fine form all season with 19 goals to his name. He was watched by David Moyes as he made his international debut in France’s win over Netherlands. He has faced Manchester United in the group stages of Champions League and has impressed the new manager, after complimenting on his versatility and technique. With poor performances from Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia this season, it has been said that a new wide player is necessary for the club.

4. Paul Pogba

paul pogba

Paul Pogba has been the subject of a sensational return to Manchester United to bolster their midfield problems, but an expensive transfer fee is reportedly the only solution to their question. He was also watched by David Moyes during his scouting trip in France. The Juventus midfielder is a serious contender for being the world’s best player in the future and is monitored by the likes of Real Madrid and PSG.

5. Matthias Ginter

The German defender was the subject of David Moyes’ visit when Freiburg took on Hertha Berlin in a goalless draw. He has been rated as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga and was called up to the national team when Germany took on Chile. He has desires of playing in a ‘big club’ such as Manchester United, but is also on the radar of league rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

David Moyes has written to Manchester United fans, thanking them for their support after a season more difficult than he imagined.

“Everywhere we turn people outside the club have a lot to say about Manchester United, but we have all stuck together through some tough times this season and I firmly believe that, in the long run, we will all come out at the other end, stronger for the experiences.”

What do you think of these potential signings and who should Moyes buy in your opinion? Leave a comment below.

Wayne Rooney signs contract extension with Manchester United

Wayne Rooney has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at Manchester United until June 2019 according Sky Sports sources.

The England striker’s future had been the source of speculation since Chelsea attempted to sign the striker last year.

With 18 months left on his previous deal, some of Europe’s top clubs began to take an interest in the 28-year-old, but on Friday night he committed his future to United.

“I am made up to be staying at United,” said Rooney, who has scored 208 goals in 430 appearances for the club.

“I now have the chance as one of the club’s senior players to help the younger players coming through and to be a part of another great United team.”

Wayne Rooney

“In August I will have been at the club for 10 years and during that time I have played with some fantastic players and won everything that I hoped I would when I first signed.

“I now have the chance as one of the club’s senior players to help the younger players coming through and to be a part of another great United team.

“The fans have always been a huge part of this club and the support they have given me since my debut against Fenerbahce has been amazing. I am very grateful to all United fans around the world for their continued support.

Rooney’s contract is understood to be worth around £300,000 a week and will be a welcome boost for United fans, who have seen their team slip 11 points off the pace in the hunt for Champions League football.

Rooney signs new United deal

“I am thrilled that we have got Wayne Rooney to stay,” said United boss David Moyes.

“He has been fantastic. Everyone would want him in their team.

“There were clubs who did want him. There were clubs who would have wanted him (had he not signed a new deal) but there was never going to be a chance he was going to leave Manchester United, certainly not on my watch.”

Rooney has scored 11 goals during an injury-interrupted season and is tipped to succeed Nemanja Vidic as captain at the end of the season.

The Merseysider, who joined United from Everton in 2004, could now spend the rest of his days at Old Trafford and will be keen to beat Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals for the club.

“Wayne is a great player and hopefully we can keep him at a really high level which he has shown this season,” added Moyes.

“Part of the rebuilding (process) is making sure that you keep the players you really want to keep.

“We are looking to bring the best players in the world to the club. I think Wayne Rooney is one of them.

“I will be looking to make more signings in the summer and hopefully add to the quality we already have got.”

Match Preview: Arsenal vs Bayern Munich

The reigning UEFA Champions League holders will visit the Emirates Stadium to face an Arsenal side that progressed into the quarter-final of the FA Cup after defeating Liverpool by two goals to one and is a point behind English Premier League leaders Chelsea. The Bavarian giants swept aside the North Londoners last season in England 3-1 and while Arsenal responded with a 2-0 victory at the Allianz Arena, they were knocked out on the away goals rule. In the end, Bayern Munich went on to lift the trophy for a fifth time.

mesut ozil

Arsene Wenger’s mission to seek revenge against a Pep Guardiola side will be difficult without the likes of injured Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott and suspended vice-captain Mikel Arteta. There is good news for Arsenal, with the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the familiarity of the Bundesliga style of play whereby Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski all have experience in.

Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri will miss the game due to a buttock injury and a muscle injury respectively, but that will not stop the likes of Mario Gotze, Arjen Robben and Mario Mandukic from giving world class performances. The German champions go into the tie in good form, winning their last nine matches in all competion, scoring 28 goals and only conceding two.

Key players

Bastian Schweinsteiger will have an important role in stopping Arsenal’s attacking threat from penetrating his side. He will need to be on the top of his game to help his side get that important away goal to bring back to Munich.

His German counterpart, Mesut Ozil will be looking forward to hurt his countrymen by being an influential figure in the game. With the help from the likes of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud upfront, Ozil will need to be key if Arsenal is likely to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Match Preview: Manchester City vs Barcelona

The UEFA Champions League is back and is proud to showcase a last-16 tie between four-time winner FC Barcelona and former English champions Manchester City.

Manchester City have never reached the last 16 of the Champions League before and will be facing Barcelona, who are joint top of the Spanish league, for the first time in a competitive match. On the other hand, Barcelona have only managed 6 wins in 28 matches in England. The two teams have never played competitively before, although the two sides have each won three out of six friendlies.

Manchester City goes in the game without star striker Sergio Aguero, who has been out since 29 January after picking up a hamstring injury in a win over Tottenham Hotspur. He has amassed 26 goals in 25 appearances for City this season. Despite that, Manuel Pellegrini do have the depth with the likes of Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo, who has scored against FC Barcelona before for Sevilla. Manchester City also welcomes the return of Fernandinho after missing three games with a muscle injury.

The ‘holy trinity’ of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta aren’t as vital as they used to be, but the likes of Fabregas, Pedro, Neymar and Sanchez have grown in stature and everyone pulled their weight when Messi was out injured. Their ‘tiki-taka’ style of play will come to the challenge of a Manchester City team that likes to press high.

Yaya Toure will be up against his former club and will probably be the most important for his current one in this fixture. With 15 goals and 6 assists this season, Toure will need to have a huge game as he tussles with Barcelona’s star-studded midfield.

Despite returning from injury, Lionel Messi appears to have found his stride just in time for this fixture, scoring 6 goals in his last 5 games. The players around him have grown in stature but crucially, he continues to be integral to the team and remains their talisman.

The Best Ever Football BETS made by punters!

We all love to win money and to beat the bookies. Of course it’s not the easiest thing in the world to do, and because of this the reward is always satisfying whether it’s a £5 win or £5000 win. But we all one day hope we can upset the odds and bash the bookies in a remarkable way. Here’s a collection of the greatest football bets ever made.

1. Edinburgh man wins £100,000 on football bet

A man from Edinburgh has won a payout of £101,200 after betting on four football matches in the Scottish Cup. The Scot’s £100 accumulator paid out after all four of his chosen teams won their first round ties by four goals or more. He won when Cove Rangers beat Glasgow University 4-0, Huntly defeated Newton Stewart 6-1 and Culter beat Burntisland Shipyard 4-0. Wick Academy then beat Coldstream 9-1 to secure the payout.

Tony Kenny, spokesman for the bookmaker’s William Hill, said:

“This punter obviously had a crystal ball when making his selections.”

2. Man wins £500,000 off 30p accumulator bet

In August 2010 William Hill were stung by a football fan who scooped a £500,000 windfall on a remarkable 30p accumulator. It came after the unnamed Manchester United fan, thought to be a self-employed businessman in his 50s, placed a single 30p stake on a 15-event accumulator.

The same man, whose winning odds of 1,666,666-to-one are believed to be a world record, scooped £157,000 from a £2.50 accumulator in 1999 when Manchester United won the Champions League final.  Was skill involved or was just another lucky punt?

Biggest English Premierleague Football Romances

We have seen football players take their team all the way to the top on their own in many occasions, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United and Real Madrid, Luis Suarez for Liverpool, Diego Maradona for Napoli and also Ferenc Puskas for Real Madrid and his country Hungary. The term “two is better than one” can be applicable to some cases in world football. Two players who have played with each other for a long time can dominate a team.

Great partnerships have graced football for years or even decades.

Here’s a list of the top 3 best partnerships to grace the premierleague:

3. Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp

In terms of individual abilities, these two are probably the most gifted footballers on this list and as a pair they just are magnificent. The Frenchman and the Dutchman have played together at Arsenal for six years and they helped the Gunners win league titles and FA Cups galore. Dennis Bergkamp has often been the provider, while Thierry Henry would execute a class of a finish. They scored over 200 times between, with their biggest achievement being as Arsenal’s front line during the “Invicibles” season in 2003/04.

2. Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton

They were originally dubbed the “SAS” after Chris Sutton arrived at Ewood Park from Norwich City in 2004. They immediately formed a devastating partnership with Alan Shearer playing in front of Chris Sutton. They scored a combination of 49 goals in the 94/95 season, which saw Blackburn Rovers claim an unlikely Premier League title with 89 points, one point ahead of Manchester United after the last game of the season. Defences struggled to deal with the powerful strikers, but fortunately for them Chris Sutton lost his form the following season and managed to score only one goal.

1. Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke

andy cole laughing

It wasn’t difficult to decide who the deadliest duos were on this list. Sir Alex Ferguson combined Dwight Yorke with Andy Cole, after purchasing the  Trinidad & Tobago striker from Aston Villa in 1998. They were both big-name signings and promising strikers, but no one imagined the impact they would have had. They seemed to communicate telepathically and their different styles worked in accordance with each other. They scored 53 goals between them in the 1998/99 season, which fired Manchester United to winning the English Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. They continued their incredible partnership for another two seasons and are arguably one of the best striking partnerships in the modern game.

NOTABLE MENTIONS: Cristiano Ronaldo & Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres & Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez & Daniel Sturridge, Andres Iniesta & Xavi, Clarence Seedorf & Kaka, Franck Ribery & Arjen Robben.

The 3 Best Players Likely to Miss the World Cup

The FIFA World Cup in Brazil will showcase the best teams around the world competing to be the best, but some countries might not be able to go far due to major injuries to a few high-profile players.

Radamel Falcao (Colombia)

The Colombian national team’s chances of going far in Brazil have been dashed as their captain suffered a serious knee injury in a Coupe de France match for Monaco. Radamel Falcao featured in 13 of the 16 qualifiers Colombia played. In the 13 he played, they won eight, drew two and lost three, which is 1.33 points per game without him as opposed to 2.0 points per game with him, a statistic only Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi betters. According to the doctor who operated on him, the striker has a good chance of making it to Brazil in the summer.

Theo Walcott (England)

theo walcott

Theo Walcott was ruled out for at least six months after his left knee sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during the 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Tottenham. He has appeared in ten qualifiers since 2010, with England winning 9 times and drawing once. Despite only playing four games throughout the qualifiers, he had been a big part of Roy Hodgson’s plan to win the World Cup.

Sami Khedira (Germany)

sami khredira

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira tore both his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral playing for Germany in November. The German’s rehabilitation is said to be progressing well and will be back in time fit as ever, according to Joachim Low. He has been an influential figure for his country, playing in eight game in being victorious in all of them, getting a goal in the process.

2) Nemanja Vidic

The Serbian powerhouse joined Manchester United in January of 2006  for a fee of around £7 million. Biggest January 2014 Transfers in English football

As the January transfer window is coming to a close in it’s final week, let’s take a look at the top signings that caught everyone’s eye in the first month of 2014.

Aiden McGeady

The pacy winger joined Everton from Spartak Moscow on a four-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee. He won four Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Cups in six years for Celtic before moving to Russia. He is on this list because of his fancy tricks, notably “The McGeady Spin”.

Juan Mata

juan mata spain

Who would have imagined Chelsea’s two-time Player of the Year to be benched in the first half of the season under new coach Jose Mourinho? The likes of Oscar (new number 10 described by The Special One), Eden Hazard,  summer signings Willian and Andre Schurrle made it difficult for the Spanish international to break into the starting eleven. David Moyes decided to break the bank and capture Juan Mata’s signature for a club record fee of £37.1 million. Juan Mata vowed to perform in every game in order to make it into the Spanish squad for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Mohamed Salah

The battle to capture Mohamed Salah’s signature between Liverpool and Chelsea was one of the highlights of the January transfer window. The 21-year old Egyptian eventually signed for the Blues for a fee reported to be £11 million. He captured the eyes of world football after scoring in both victories over Chelsea for Basel in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Nemanja Matic

He was formerly a Chelsea player, before leaving for Benfica in a deal which brought David Luiz to Chelsea. He rejoined the Londoners for for a fee of £21 million. At 6 foot 4, the Serbian was what Jose Mourinho was looking for. He wanted depth in his squad, and depth he has, with Frank Lampard, Ramires, Nemanja Matic, John Obi Mikel and David Luiz as an alternative.

Manchester United have made a £40 million bid for Chelsea’s Juan Mata

Manchester United have made a £40 million bid for Chelsea’s Juan Mata through a third party, according to Sky Sports News sources.

Neither club have confirmed the offer but the playmaker missed training today and it appears that the first move has been made in what would be one of the biggest transfers of the season.

Deals of this magnitude are seldom completed without complications and the indications are that intermediaries are being allowed to make the running in negotiations before matters are made official.

juan mata

All parties are keen for the transfer to go through, according to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guilleme Balugue, and there has been speculation that a medical will take place before the weekend.

United need a filip in a disappointing season and the signing of Mata – which is likely break the club’s transfer record – would be a serious statement of intent.

Chelsea are understood to be happy to sell as manager Jose Mourinho has too many attacking players in his squad and prefers other options to Mata.

The club would also make a significant profit on a player who they signed for £23.5m from Valencia in 2011.

For Mata the transfer would give him an opportunity for much more playing time with the World Cup in Brazil looming this summer.

However, transfers between Chelsea and Manchester United in either direction are few and far between and the Premier League’s top clubs prefer not to sell to direct rivals.

Biggest Shocks of the Season – 2013/2014

Manchester United’s Home Record so far: W 5 D 2 L 4

Manchester United are prone to starting the season off slowly and any fan will be able to tell you that. Yet this would never worry the Red Devils as Sir Alex Ferguson would finish strong and clinch a Champions League spot come the end of the season. Since 1990/1991 United have always finished 3rd or above and have won the league 13 times. But is that about to change?

The Theatre of Dreams must be giving Moyes nightmares this season. Being beaten at Old Trafford in the league by West Brom, Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham isn’t something United are used to. Fingers began pointing early on at the new recruited manager. On the other hand in Moyes’ defense he has been unable to pick Robin Van Persie (last season’s top goal scorer with 26) for most of the season. Additionally a jaded defense struck with injuries has caused problems at the back seeing United concede 10 goals in 11 home games.

How Much Time Do Managers Have? – 11 management changes since the end of last season

This topic has hit the headlines recently with the controversy in Wales seeing Malky MacKay relieved of his duties as Cardiff manager. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named as his replacement and will try to prove himself as a Premier League manager. But how long will Solskjaer really have to prove himself in the best league in the world?

Mackay lasted until Christmas but his efforts weren’t enough to gain the approval of Vincent Tan. There are sturdy arguments to suggest he shouldn’t have been sacked. During his time at Cardiff taking charge of 125 games he left the club with a 43% success rate winning 54 and losing only 34. Not forgetting a 3-2 home victory over Manchester City in August. Most importantly Mackay ensured the Welsh bragging rights were in Cardiff’s favor after beating Swansea 1-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Big names including Paolo Di Canio, Ian Holloway, Martin Jol and André Villas-Boas have also left there clubs since the beginning of this season. Unless you’re Arsene Wenger no one seems to be safe in Premier League management. It won’t be long until managers only have a matter of games to prove themselves let alone a matter of months.

Liverpool Ponder Summer Move For Swedish Attacking Starlet!

Premier League giants Liverpool are understood to be interested in signing young Fulham front man Muamer Tankovic at the end of this season.

The Merseysiders are said to have been keeping close tabs on the Swede of late with a view to possibly landing the player this summer, with the Reds having even recently sent scouts down to west London in order to watch Tankovic first hand.

And with Tankovic’s current deal with the Cottagers set to run out on June 30 2014, the 18-year-old will be available to pick up on a Bosman-style free transfer come the climax to this campaign, which makes the attacking starlet an even more attractive proposition to Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers.

brendan rodgers

Tankovic only made his first-team debut for the west London club in their FA Cup third-round replay with Norwich City at Craven Cottage earlier this month.

However, the player had previously be shining for the top-flight strugglers in their Under-21 Premier League campaign, where Tankovic had managed to register an impressive eight goals and one assist in total in his 112 encounters for his club.

What are the chances of it happening? 6/10 for me.

Arsenal Set to Bid for £24m Rated La Liga Winger!!!

Arsenal are readying a fresh bid for highly rated Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been given a boost in the pursuit of the 22 year old French forward after Griezmann admitted he could leave his La Liga club in order to assist his push for a first call-up to the senior national team set-up.

“I am relaxed about my future at the moment,” he told radio station RMC .

“I have not had talks other clubs yet. This is something to look at.

“I want to play for a leading European team and I hope this can help me get a place in the France team.”

Arsenal failed with a £12m bid for Griezmann and have been told to fork out twice that amount if they want to land the talented wide-man, a bid that Wenger may be more likely to consider now that Theo Walcott has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Griezmann is into his fifth season at Basque side Real Sociedad and has been in marvelous form, scoring 12 goals in 17 La Liga fixtures this term, a strike rate that is phenomenal for any player not plying their trade for one of Spain’s giants Barcelona or Real Madrid.

What are the chances of it happening? 7/10 for me.

Man Utd’s transfer targets – Who will Man United buy in 2014?

What problems do Man United need to address in 2014?

As stated everywhere over the internet, on television and radio it’s obvious that Man United are having a catastrophic season. Their defense has been non existent at times. Whether it be Rio Ferdinand slowing down and losing his sharpness, lack of organisation in defense or the lack of protection from their midfield it’s blatant new faces are essential. In addition we all know from last season that their wingers are not producing the goods. They have all showed signs of potential, whether it be Ashley Young, Nani or Antonio Valencia. However none of them have reached the consistent levels in recent years expected of them, which Man United are crying out for. Lastly as everyone knows, a quality midfielder that can keep the ball, make a tackle and make a pass is necessary.

Players on the Man United shopping list?

Central Defender

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Benfica star Ezequiel Garay.

The 27-year-old defender, who is valued at €30 million by the Portuguese giants, has been subject to preliminary talks between both clubs in recent days with United keen to continue negotiations this week.

United consider the Argentine as an ideal replacement for Nemanja Vidic, who has nearing to the end of his great Man United career alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Central Midfielder

Reports suggest David Moyes has held talks with Juventus’s chief transfer negotiator after planning a bold double move for Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal. The Manchester United manager met boardroom boss Beppe Marotta after Juventus’s game at Cagliari on Sunday 12th January and discussed the possibility of signing either, or both, of his top two targets.

Vidal would be exactly the type of player they need. He is a strong leader in the center midfield that can make tackle, make a pass and score goals!

di maria

Ben Burrows of the Daily Mirror Online has previously highlighted Moyes’ admiration for Di Maria, who has the talent to drastically improve United’s attack. David Moyes is in need of a more dynamic threat out wide and Di Maria would be a remarkable addition. He is a quick player than can make a goal and score a goal. He is a match winner and would be a signing that would go down well. With the addition of Gareth Bale this transfer looks very possible.

3 Great Football Markets to BET on

Why are some betting markets better to bet on? You can make far more money than you are currently making by betting on the right markets. Sometimes, as a punter, you do not realize the amazing potential to make profits from some football markets. Why is this so? Probably because you are focused only on a limited number of football markets. At Clever Bets, our aim is to help you make as much profit as you can so we will be telling you about three amazing profitable markets to bet on.

Both Teams To Score

This market is an exciting one as it allows you to select and stake money on matches where you expect both teams to score a goal. With this market, the eventual winner is irrelevant, just as long as both teams find the back of the net. Here is a tip for placing bets on this market. Look at the stats! Manchester City have a scored many goals this season, however they have simply conceded too many goals on the road. Away at Blackburn, Man City were huge favorites but an on-form Blackburn side managed to surprisingly upset City and get a 1 – 1 draw out of the game. Betting on both teams would have been a clever bet – no pun intended.

Total Team Goals
Predicting the total number of goals scored in a match is sometimes safer than predicting an outright winner. This market is also a much more profitable one than betting on who will win a game or who will score the goals. If a team is in scoring form but are likely to also concede a couple of goals then the market of ‘Over 1.5 team goals’ can be a great market to bet on.

Asian Handicap Markets

Asian handicap markets involve betting on a team having a goal head-start or deficit before the game begins. An example could be Manchester City at home to Norwich City. You can bet on Manchester City to have a -2.5 handicap which means that City would need to win the game by three goals to secure your winnings. Why bet on this market? Because it is a smart way of securing better odds. A typical City versus Norwich game will see City have a very short price which means less profit and Norwich having a long price which means more profit at a very high risk. To get better prices, playing the Asian handicap markets is the way to go.

Invincible Man City?

man city

As as we are now well into the second half of the Premier League season one can only question Manchester City’s Phenomenal strength. Once again today the blue half of Manchester strolled to yet another convincing win, beating Cardiff 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium. Edin Dzeko scored the opener on the 10th minute which marked their 100th Goal this season.  Other Goal Scorers included new summer recruit Jesus Navas, as well as the Powerhouse in midfield Yaya Toure and “Mr. Reliable” Sergio Agüero. Vincent Kompany recently stated that it would only be “A Matter Of Time” before Manchester City win the Quadruple and that they believe they can do it this year.

The only problem in the way of Manchester City at the moment is in February when they have to Face Barcelona in the Champions League Last 16. With Lionel Messi and other Star Quality Players such as Neymar, Manchester City will have to be on their Extreme Best to Knock Out the Catalan Giants.

Nani may leave to Sporting Lisborn (Loan transfer)

Manchester United’s skillful winger Nani has shown signs of brilliance in his time at the club but has never really reached his full potential.

Reports in Portugal suggest that negotiations are ongoing between Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon regarding a loan agreement for Nani. It is understood that United are willing to sanction a deal if they are offered first refusal on Sporting’s in-demand midfielder William Carvalho at the end of the season.

Nani had fell out of favor with his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson last season, however David Moyes decided to renew his contract earlier this season. Nevertheless the Portuguese winger has still not got many games under his belt due to not being selected and because of a hamstring problem. Moyes may look to send him on loan in this transfer window. This may perhaps give more playing time to the likes of Wilfried Zaha who has yet to also get regular football at the club this season.

Will we see Nani back at his former club this season? Only time will tell!

Manchester United boss David Moyes in contention for manager of the month

Manchester United manager David Moyes is amongst the nominees for Barclays Premier League manager of the month for December.

It’s not a joke. Moyes’ men have endured a poor start to 2014 – but they secured four wins and a draw in December which has seen him shortlisted.

Also in contention is Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who had a win ratio of 71 per cent after claiming five wins from seven games, losing just once. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is also up for the honour after going unbeaten in the month, winning six of his seven games. The final name up for the award is Everton’s Roberto Martinez, who lost just once in his six games – taking his side to four wins over the festive period. Whoever wins will be taking their first honour of the season, as the previous four winners – Brendan Rodgers, Arsene Wenger, Mauricio Pochettino and Alan Pardew – are not nominated.

Like with the manager award, the player of the month will also be a new contender as none of the previous four winners are up for nomination. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez leads the contenders, but Manchester City stars Alvaro Negredo, Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure are also in contention. England and Everton starlet Ross Barkley is nominated along with Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, who has subsequently been ruled out for the season.

3 Reasons Why Solskjær will Succeed At Cardiff

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has surprisingly made the move to Cardiff City from Molde. Surprisingly because given Vincent Tan’s treatment of Malky Mackay, it was expected that finding a new manager was going to be tougher than finding a Chelsea striker that scores goals. Despite the naysayers, Solskjær may succeed here are three reasons why:

Ole is a champion

As a player and now as a manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been a champion. Most famous for his last minute goal in the ’99 Champions League final. Ole has began his managerial career with a flourish as he secured back to back league titles with Molde as well as a Norwegian Cup triumph. Ole has a winning mentality about him and could do well to impart that on this Cardiff City side looking for inspiration. Former Man United striker Fraizer Campbell will relish linking up again with his former Man United teammate/coach.

Tan could be a misunderstood man

Ole’s first words as Cardiff boss were in defense of owner Vincent Tan. Presumably, Tan is not the eccentric man we all think he is and instead, the Malaysian simply wants some success at the club. If that is true, then the pair can iron out a working relationship that helps the club enjoy stability after the rocky tenure of Malky Mackay. Besides, Tan probably knows he is no longer popular with the fans and will want to stop being seen as the villain.

Ole had a great education

sir alex f

Playing for years under Sir Alex Ferguson, Ole must have picked up a few tricks. His three titles in three years as Molde boss also prove that the former striker had a great education. His continued friendship with Sir Alex ensures that Ole will have a mentor he can reach out to at all times for some great tips, just like you can with Clever Bets.

We can look forward to a long successful reign for Mr Solskjær in England, as long as Mr Tan realizes the team will need investment and that his new employee will need time.

The 3 Best New Premier League Players

Mesut Özil: £42.5 Million from Real Madrid Club de Fútbol

mesut ozil

Arsenal fans couldn’t believe it when the news was released that Özil had signed a long term contract with the club. Nobody could believe it. Not even us at Clever Bets could have predicted it. Not that any Arsenal fan would admit it, but they certainly have Spurs to thank for his arrival. Gareth Bale leaving Tottenham and moving to Madrid was the queue for Özil to make his move to the Premier League.

The German has been a main feature in the Arsenal line up this season; with 15 premier league games under his belt he already boasts 4 goals and 7 assists (second in the premier league) for the gunners. Even bagging a vital goal against Napoli in the Champions League some would say that £42.5 million is looking like the bargain of the season so far. The major worry would be keeping Özil fit for the rest of the season, if Arsenal manage that then German could be looking at a Premier League medal at the first time of asking.

Álvaro Negredo: £16.4 Million from Sevilla

alv negredo

Just one of many usual big money signings for Man City over the summer, but he has held his own in the Premier League this season. With 13 starts for the sky blues and 5 appearances off the bench Negredo is already pushing double figures with a goal tally of 8 league goals. The most notable coming on Boxing Day to see off an inform Liverpool side 2-1.

It seems that Negredo saves his best performances for the Champions League, netting 5 times for Man City in 6 appearances. This statistic will even be making the Barcelona defense nervous for their upcoming last 16 Champions League clash. Negredo is a player that has won us many football tips as anytime goalscorer and will surely do so in the future.

Adnan Januzaj: £500,000 from Anderlecht (2 years ago)

Talk about playing with pressure on your shoulders when you’re compared to the likes of Ryan Giggs or even George Best at the age of 18. David Moyes believes that Januzaj has something special and managed to persuade the youngster to put pen to paper in a contract that lasts until June 2018. One for the future most definitely, with Moyes not taking his time in integrating the youngster into the first team. He has shown promise with 13 appearances in the Premier League and recording 3 goals and 2 assists.

Although lately Januzaj has been making headlines for the wrong reasons, taking a leap out of Ashley Young’s guide on how to play football, he will be a Manchester United star player for many years.
